THE OLD WORN BANDIDO

from MONA LISA SMILE by Billy O'Dwyer Bob

/

lyrics

He squints up his eyes at the sun like an old worn bandido
He sits with a drink in his hand when his day is done
He tells of a love he once knew, of a young señorita
And he talks of the battles he fought and the wars that he won.

The veins in his hands show the strain of the years of hard labour
The lines on his face show the depth of his sorrow and pain
He's tired of his life but sometimes there's moments he savours
He remembers the good times and recalls these old memories again.

Chorus
He knows that there's nothing in life lasts forever
He remembers the first time he saw her and they fell in love
She's been gone for awhile but someday they will be back together
And he'll hold her once more and they'll dance in the heavens above.

He sits on his porch and he welcomes the end of an evening
He thinks of a time way back when he had it all
He says a short prayer for small mercies and the things he believes in
For it's better to have loved and lost than know no love at all.

Chorus

He lays in his bed and he wakes and he curses the morning
For those who would care he will smile and try to go on
He fears what the day it might bring, the loneliness dawning
For his eyes show his heart has been broke and his spirit is gone.

Chorus x2
